Visitors
We recently had a visitor to our Aistear Programme in Infants. Farmer Stevenson came along with his tractor and a trailer. Inside were twin calves three days old, Jack and Jill. The children had been learning about farms and farming and this enhanced the programme no end. The children were so excited to see real live calves and all got a chance to pet them.
David Bryce, a pilot, also came to the school when Aistear was covering travel as a theme. Many got to try on his hat and jacket. He showed a very informative powerpoint show and spoke to the children. Visits like these are a great way of learning.
Aoife Munn from Windyridge Nursery came to 3rd and 4thclasses to do some planting. She planted cacti with them and gave us winter lettuce seeds to plant outside. She also spoke to them about micro climates.
Welcome back from Mrs. Senior
Let me say welcome back to everyone to a new school term. After a fabulous summer I think everyone has been well rested and certainly the children have been delighted to see their friends again.
School came back with our annual parish and school fete. There is always a touch of déjà vú at this time. This was indeed a roaring success and enjoyed and looked forward to by all. It was lovely to see both young and old enjoying the day. So much for all ages to do. Thanks to everyone who got involved and to the parish for this huge initiative which has become so much part of Shankill.
Already photographs have been taken of the pupils in the school. New copies and books are in use and timetables for everything are being enforced. Thanks to all the volunteers at this time. With so many cutbacks this help is essential especially with reading and computers.
Enthusiasm in the school is contagious at present. Long may it continue and here’s hoping we all have an excellent school year.
